Stratum Corneum: Your Scalp’s Guardian

The unsung hero that maintains the delicate balance between your scalp and the outside world.

Let 2025 be the year we unleash our highest potential to grow our healthiest hair.

Healthy hair starts with a clean scalp and a clean scalp = faster hair growth!

Does your scalp feel itchy, greasy, or flaky? It’s likely you are suffering from build up blocking your follicles and slowing hair growth.

The Stratum Corneum - the outer layer of your scalp - is very important in scalp care. It acts as the primary protective barrier preventing excess water loss, guarding against irritants like toxins and harmful oxidations. Maintaining the overall health and hydration of the stratum corneum is essential for a balanced scalp ecosystem.

Styling products high in toxins, harsh shampoos with strong detergents and sulfates, and alcohol based hair products weaken the stratum corneum. This can lead to dryness, dandruff, and irritation than can cause thinning over time. How to prevent this?

  1. Cleanse Without Stripping

By using hydrating shampoos instead of protein and sulfate based shampoos to maintain moisture. Clarify once a month using a clarifying shampoo, clay , or dilute ACV rinse. For extra scalp care use a herbal tea rinse before deep conditioning. Try out some herbs we make sure to include in our products such as Hibiscus, Chamomile, Green Tea, Black Tea, Peppermint, Nettle, or Horsetail.

  2. Balance and Protect Your Scalp

A healthy scalp thrives on hydration and balance. Try using a hydrosol for hair and scalp benefits The molecules of hydrosols penetrate inside the follicles and cuticles of the hair. They are free of toxins and non-irritant, making them an excellent accompaniment to your haircare routine. All our products contain hydrosols making it easy to incorporate into your routine. Make sure to choose the hydrosol most suitable for your scalp and hair concerns. Try to avoid daily use of heavy butters and oils directly on the scalp as this can cause buildup on your scalp and slow your hair growth.

A Simple Scalp Care Routine

  • Use a hydrating shampoo weekly for cleansing with a scalp exfoliating brush

  • Use a clarifying shampoo once a month to remove build up on the scalp

  • Balance your scalp with the use of tea rinses or hydrosols

  • Perform a scalp massage during the week with light oils e.g. jojoba, hemp seed, sunflower to support hair growth

  • Nourish your follicles from the inside with Iron, Zinc, Magnesium, Omega-3, Vitamin D, B12 & B7
